Est 1858 Like the Pump Rooms it was designed by the architect James Cranston, but in a slightly more conventional design, slightly oval rather than strictly circular.

It was built so local farmers wives could have an undercover space to sell butter and other products, whilst their husbands probably attended livestock markets which were held weekly.
