Grand Opening of Teme Valley Artisans – A Creative Revival in the Heart of the Community in Tenbury Wells on 21st June 2025

A once flood-damaged and empty retail space in the heart of Tenbury Wells is now brimming with creativity, warmth, and community spirit. Teme Valley Artisans, a new not-for-profit community shop and creative hub, is set to open its doors, offering a fresh lease of life not just for the building, but for local artists and residents alike.

Located in one of the many properties affected by the devastating 2024 floods, the newly renovated shop is now home to a co-operative of local artisans, dedicated to showcasing and selling unique, handcrafted pieces. From textiles to ceramics, woodwork to painting, and including all crafts in between such as handmade skincare and beauty products and local photography, the shop celebrates the rich talent of the Teme Valley area.

The transformation has been led by three local artisans who together formed Teme Valley Artisans CIC (Community Interest Company), each investing their own savings to breathe life back into the space. With the help of dedicated volunteers and local support, they’ve created a rustic, welcoming environment where creativity and community come together.

“We saw an opportunity not just to create a shop, but to make something lasting and meaningful for the community,” said Sarah Brooks, one of the directors. “This is about giving local makers a place to thrive and residents a space to connect, learn, and be inspired.”

Michael Palfrey, known locally as The Bee Fairy, added “The Teme Valley Artisans CIC is all about celebrating creativity, craftsmanship, and community. We’re building a space where local artisans can connect with others who share their passion.”

How it Works:

  • Local artists become members of the CIC, paying a nominal annual fee and either a small monthly rent or commission on sales to exhibit and sell their work.
  • The shop will be staffed by a mix of artists, volunteers, and the three directors, ensuring a warm, knowledgeable welcome for every visitor.
  • All packaging used in-store is eco-friendly and sustainable, in line with the CIC’s commitment to ethical practices.

The Makers Loft is the first floor space which has been thoughtfully repurposed into a workshop and community room, where artisans will offer creative workshops for adults of all skill levels. The room will also be available for local groups to hire for meetings, talks, or additional workshops.

“I am very excited to be involved in this new initiative,” says Tracy Scully, another of the directors and the creator of Smitten’s range of handmade cushions, bags and pouches. “We are not only bringing new life to a property in Market Street, Tenbury Wells, but also providing the perfect outlet for Teme Valley Artisans to showcase and sell their products”.Teme Valley Artisans CIC invites everyone to its grand opening celebration on Saturday 21st June 2025 from 10am.  Come and explore the space, meet the makers, and be part of this exciting new chapter in Tenbury Wells’ creative community
