Welcome to our New Education section:

We are privileged to be surrounded by so many local schools in and around Tenbury Wells. It is our pleasure to showcase our schools and shout from the rooftops their and their children’s achievements.
Therefore, we felt it only fitting that we should dedicate a page entirely for each of our schools to share their Head Teacher’s Welcome, Prospectus, News, Updates & Accomplishments.
Schools today provide a safe and encouraging place to learn and to nurture our children to be the very best THEY can be.
Let me take you back to the Victorian era and enlighten you with some pretty scary facts about schools of this time…
Schools had been around for many years, but it wasn’t until 1870 that a law was passed that it was mandatory that all children between 5-10 should attend school Monday – Friday. So not too dissimilar to schools of today…. but wait, the leaving age was just 11 years old.
How many children do you have in your class of 2022? 25-32 maybe? Well, some of our inner-city schools had 80 – 90 per class, can you imagine being seen let alone heard?
Your teacher would have most likely have been a lady and unmarried one at that because of course the married ones would be caring for their own family. They were as history states very scary and strict women.
They focussed mainly on the 3 R’s as it was referred to
Reading Writing and Arithmetic Lessons would be centred around these and often not much else. Children would not have paper only slate to write on.
How different school is today, we have paper, pens, and comfy chairs (well almost, if they ever can be) Most schools now have computers readily available in class or in the computer suites.
There are so many opportunities within school now, all offering a wide range of extra-curricular and after-school activities.
So, let’s Cheer On our schools and be thankful always for our teachers and all the support staff that make our schools what they are today and be grateful you were NOT a Victorian.
